Amphibians In scientific classification, Amphibians are in the Animalia kingdom, in the Chordata Phylum, in the Vertebrata Subphylum, and in the Amphibia class.
Amphibians are animals whose body temperature is regulated by the external environment. They are typically called cold-blooded. Amphibians spend some part of their time on land and in water. Amphibians are capable of breathing through their skin.
To reproduce, most amphibians go to fresh water, not brackish or sea water. Most amphibians lay their eggs in still water. After they hatch, the young amphibians go through a process called metamorphosis where they transform into adults.
When going through metamorphosis, gills are replaced by lungs, their skin develops glands, the eyes develop eyelids, eardrums are devoloped, and the tail (in frogs and toads) disappear).
Examples of Amphibians are:
Frogs/Toads
Salamandars
Western Rough Skinned Newt
Axolotl
